Today I will be reviewing one of the most popular items on BTOD.com, the Magnum 24/7 chair by Valo Furniture. The Magnum chair has been a favorite of our customer base for a long time. I was very excited for the opportunity to use the chair for an extended period of time, to gain a better understanding for what our customers are experiencing. Let’s take a look at what I found.

1. Valo History
Valo is a brand offered by the company Dauphin. Dauphin was founded in 1969 in Bavaria, Germany. Its focus is on ergonomic office chairs. The market for task chairs exploded, along with the popularity of the computer, and Dauphin was able to capitalize on this opportunity. They expanded to the US in 1993. Their combination of European styling and German engineering has made them a popular choice ever since.

3. Upholstery
For the Magnun Seat, Valo offers nine different commercial grade fabrics to choose from. They also have a leather seat option. Their standard, Grade A fabric is 100% polyester with a double rub count of 60,000. Their black option can be shipped within two business days and an additional five colors can ship within seven business days. The chair backrest is only available in black mesh.
Although Valo advertises their numerous fabric options, they do not provide color swatches on their website for dealers to download. Most online retailers will only feature the Grade A, black fabric option.
Tip: If you desire a color other than black, I recommend contacting an authorized dealer via phone to inquire about additional color options.
4. Shipping and Assembly
The Valo Magnum ships FedEx/UPS Ground for small orders (usually three chairs or less). Larger orders will ship LTL with standard tailgate or dock to dock delivery. If you need special services for your delivery, then contact your authorized dealer so that they can have Valo arrange for this. Additional charges will typically apply.
The Magnum ships knocked down (parts) and ready-to-assemble. The assembly is pretty straight forward and should take around 30 minutes for the average user. Valo does offer the option to have the seat, back and arms pre-assembled. You would only be left with the cylinder, base and casters to take care of. There is an additional charge for this service.
5. Magnum Warranty
The Magnum warranty only applies to the original purchaser, and proof of purchase from an authorized dealer will be required to file a claim. Once you file a claim and it is approved, Valo will send out the necessary replacement parts at no charge. It will be your responsibility to replace the damaged parts.

2024 Valo Magnum Starting Price $944.99 (Buy on BTOD)
The Magnum is a mid market product in the dispatch chair industry. Chairs like the Concept Seating 3150HR and the Iron Horse 4000 may outshine the Magnum, but they will cost you more than twice as much as a Magnum. The Magnum is more expensive than your average import chair, but an import chair will never have the build quality or warranty the Magnum does.
6. What do I like?
Build Quality
The overall build quality on the Magnum is quite good. The parts fit together tightly and the chair does not have areas that wiggle or make noise. The functions are smooth and easy to use. It feels like a very solid product that will last for a long time. This is a direct result of the high standards they brought to the USA from Germany.
Armrests
The armrests have a very unique design because they are attached to the backrest, unlike most chairs that have arms attaching to the seat. This combined with their lever lock and release system creates a huge height adjustment range. The arms will go as low as the seat, and can be completely removed if needed. The arm caps are also extremely adjustable, which is great for accommodating a wide range of users or seating positions.
Mesh Backrest
There are very few mesh back 24/7 chairs with big and tall weight ratings, so this is naturally one of the biggest upsides to the Magnum chair.
Padded Seat
Another positive is that the Magnum does not use a mesh only seat, which is something I discussed at great length in our mesh chair problems article. The padded mesh seat was still comfortable after nine hours of use.
Price
The price for the Magnum may be its most positive aspect. The selection of 24/7 chairs that have a high build quality, numerous adjustments available, and a high weight rating at an affordable price is limited. The Magnum is a good option for customers that can’t go with the $1,000+ models, but want to avoid going with a cheap chair that will need to be replaced within a couple years.
Warranty
There is a lot of value in the warranty that Valo provides. The warranty provided on the Magnum is similar to those provided on chairs selling for $1,500+. The warranty provides peace of mind knowing that you will have functional chairs for five years at a minimum. This is a very strong guarantee for a mid-level 24/7 chair.
7. What are my concerns?
Limited Range of Users
The Magnum chair is a direct copy of the extremely popular Valo Viper chair. The problem is that the Viper is a standard sized chair, which means that the Magnum is not a true big and tall chair. Some of the parts on the Magnum are beefed up to handle the increased weight and shift rating, but the dimensions of the chairs remain the same. This can cause problems for customers that may be expecting the chair to be larger than a standard office chair, considering it has a 400 lbs weight rating. Most big and tall chairs start out with a 21”W seat and go up from there; the Magnum seat is 19.5”W.
The lack of back height adjustment, seat depth adjustment, and taller cylinder options, further limits the amount of users that can comfortably use the Magnum.
Seat Frame
The seat frame can be uncomfortable when coming into contact with your legs. The entire seat has a thick, hard edge encircling it. I noticed the front of the seat frame coming into contact with my calves very frequently, from resting my feet on the chair base. This forced me to change the way I would typically position my legs. I could see this also being a problem with larger individuals that may come into contact with the sides of the seat frame.
Seat Upholstery Options
Making the fabric choices available to the general public on their website would be a huge improvement. Right now, dealers are unable to offer the entire Valo Furniture upholstery selection because it is not made readily available. From the customer’s perspective, they are unable to see the fabric options unless they are willing to wait for a fabric card to be mailed. Fabric cards will often have very small fabric swatches that can make it difficult to depict the full pattern.
Bottom Line
Overall, I think the Valo Magnum 24/7 chair is a very good product. While some improvements could be made, I do not feel that they are deal breaking ,unless you are looking for a true big and tall chair. It is produced by a very reputable company and has a solid warranty. After using this product for long hours at a time, I feel more confident than ever recommending the Valo Magnum 24/7 Chair to customers looking for a mid-level 24 hour chair.
