Over a six-week period, a team of 10 users at BTOD tested 34 popular models of office chairs for seat comfort. Each participant spent four hours working in each individual chair and at the end of the period gave it a score for seat comfort, as well as other categories. These scores were then averaged to give an overall seat comfort score for each chair. This list covers the top seven chairs scored for seat comfort.

With four scores of 90 and above, the Nightingale CXO’s seat pad was voted our most comfortable seat pad for 2025. Unlike other high-end chairs that we tested, the CXO features Ensorb foam in the seat pad which is very thick. This helps provide contoured support specific to the individual that is sitting in the chair and prevents bottoming out, which is common to thick seat pads on less expensive chairs. This chair is perfect for those who love a thick seat pad with a lot of cushion and support. Users who prefer a thinner seat pad commented on how you can sink a little too much into the pad for their liking, which can cause discomfort over time.

The Steelcase Leap v2 tallied eight scores of 80 and above and scored the same overall score as the CXO. This chair was heavily liked by most in the office, getting consistent scores in the 80s. By design, the Leap v2 features a slimmer, firmer seat pad than the CXO, which still provides day-long comfort and support. Unique to Steelcase, the front of the seat pan is flexible, providing give for the back of your legs and allowing more movement in the chair. Receiving very few complaints, this seat is built on the other end of the spectrum than the CXO and is not made for customers looking for big, thick seat pads.

Our third ranked chair, and second Steelcase on the list, is the Steelcase Gesture. A chair commonly compared to the Leap v2, the Gesture has firm, less-thick seat pad by design. When comparing to the Leap v2, the seat pad on this chair is a little flatter, which can feel restricting to users. Like the Leap v2, the front of the seat pan is flexible and the seat pan allows for a range of movement and adjustments while sitting in the chair. Overall, this seat pad is a bit firmer than the Leap v2, so if you like firm seat pads, this may be the chair for you.

The fourth ranked chair on our list is the OM Yes. Scoring three scores of 90 or more, the thick seat pad helped this chair climb towards the top of our list. Unlike the Nightingale CXO, the OM Yes comes with a contoured shape for the seat pad, which received mixed reviews from our users. One of the biggest concerns with the thicker seat pad on this chair is whether it will bottom out over time.

Coming in at fifth overall, and third Steelcase chair on our list, is the Steelcase Amia. Like the other two Steelcase chairs, the Amia features a thin seat pad, but may be the softest of the three on the list. While the seat pad is thin, it has a bit more give in the tailbone than the other Steelcase chairs. The shape of the seat is less contoured and flatter which is more comparable to the seat of the Gesture. The shape of the seat pad wasn’t a fan favorite, with one user mentioning that it was too flat and another saying they found their legs falling asleep during the four-hour testing period.
Akir Starting Price: $619.99 + Free Shipping (Buy on BTOD)
The only house product to make the list, our BTOD Akir came in sixth overall this year. Slipping some from last year’s review, the Akir features arguable the thickest and softest seat pad of the test, though that was only enough to receive three scores of 80 or more. With most scores in the 70s, users found the seat pad comfortable, but not as comfortable as the chairs higher on the list. Those who really appreciate a thick seat pad like this chair and didn’t show much concern for bottoming out over time. Like the Nightingale CXO, one user complained the thick seat pad didn’t offer proper support for long sitting periods.
Vera Price: $469.99 + Free Shipping (Buy on BTOD) (Buy on Amazon)
The final chair on the list is the Eurotech Vera. This chair offers a seat pad that’s not too thin or too thick. Falling somewhere in the middle, the seat pad was thicker than the Steelcase products on the list, but not quite as thick as the CXO or Akir. This seat pad is a bit on the firm side, but still allows you to sink in, making it a solid middle ground chair. Many said it offered good support throughout their test period. The firmness of the seat was the only real complaint made by the users who scored the Vera seat the lowest.
While some of these rankings may depend on if you prefer a thin and firm seat pad or a thick and soft seat pad, we thoroughly tested and analyzed the seat pads of some of the most popular chairs in the industry. Finding a chair with the most comfortable seat for you is very important and at BTOD we want to do everything we can to help you make the right decision.
