I was very pleased to finally get some information on the new standing desk converter by Humanscale, The QuickStand Eco. My business partner, Greg saw the QuickStand Eco while at NeoCon in Chicago last month and said that it is a product I should be excited about. I haven’t heard much more about the product until today. The QuickStand Eco is expected to be released in August 2017. The product’s design is very similar to the original QuickStand but it has some fantastic features that I think will make the QuickStand Eco a better option for the masses.

QuickStand Background
The QuickStand by Humanscale was released in 2014 and quickly became one of the most popular and praised standing desk converters. Humanscale is known for making some of the highest quality products with a specific focus on aesthetics, ease of use and ergonomics. They did not miss the mark on the QuickStand. The product is very simple to adjust, has dual ergonomics and a fully integrated cable management system. It features the classic characteristics of a Humanscale product; good build quality with a sleek and attractive design. Humanscale was even awarded “Winner best office product of the decade,” by Interior Design Magazine for the original QuickStand. While the QuickStand has some really nice features, it does have some pretty big drawbacks. The long assembly time, keyboard bounce, limited task space on the standard tray and high price point are all factors that may make buyers look for an alternative to the QuickStand.
QuickStand Eco Features to Be Excited About
The QuickStand Eco will have the same adjustment range, adjustment process and dual functionality that the original QuickStand has. On top of that, Humanscale looks to be addressing some of the possible downsides on the original QuickStand with the QuickStand Eco. I will briefly touch on the new features and why I think they will be an improvement to the original design.
Lower Price Point
I am hearing that the QuickStand Eco will come in about $200 less than the original QuickStand, which would put the starting price at $499.00. This is fantastic news. The $699.00 starting price on the QuickStand is among the highest priced standing desk converters on the market. The price jumps pretty quickly when adding features like a larger task space, dual monitors, etc. $499.00 makes it directly comparable in price to products like the Duke VESA, Kangaroo and Varidesk Pro Plus 48. It also makes it less expensive than products like the Ergotron WorkFit-S and Innovative Winston Workstation. For, $499.00, I can see the QuickStand Eco being a very good value.
Arrives Fully Assembled
The thing I am most excited about with the QuickStand Eco is that it is going to be ready to go out of the box. All you have to do is mount your monitor(s). This is a huge change from the original QuickStand. The original had the most involved and time consuming assembly process I have experienced to date. The problem with the assembly is that it is not just tedious, but also has some parts that are difficult to use and other parts that require quite a bit of physical strength to perform. That will not be the case with the QuickStand Eco, which means that anyone will be able to order the product without having to worry about whether or not they will be able to perform the assembly. A major reason why products like the Varidesk Pro Plus, Ergotron WorkFit-T and VersaDesk Power are so popular is because they arrive fully assembled. Humanscale will now have a product to match them in this regard.
Triple Monitor Set-Up
The QuickStand Eco is going to be capable of holding up to three monitors, whereas the original QuickStand can only hold dual monitors. Most people will only need a single or dual monitor set-up but there are many applications that would prefer to have more than two monitors. Users that are stock brokers or web designers can be more efficient with more monitors. There is a very limited selection of standing desk converters that allow for three or more monitors. Of the products available, the majority of them will feature a double base design that is 48” wide or more. These products take up a ton of real estate on your desk while the QuickStand Eco keeps its small footprint, even when adding three monitors.
Task Space
One downside to the QuickStand is that the standard platform size is very small. This limits your task space and also puts your viewing distance very close to your monitor. For this reason, it is more practical to go with the larger platform option. This will cost an additional $50 though. I do not have the specs for the dimensions on the platform for the QuickStand Eco but the pictures I have seen look like the platform is similar in size to the larger platform on the QuickStand. I am not sure if this is the standard size or not but it is good to know that a larger platform will be available.
Keyboard Bounce
The final downside on the original QuickStand that I want to touch on is the keyboard bounce. The keyboard platform is made of really thin phenolic. This is great for providing a low profile to your desk, when in the seated position, but it naturally has quite a bit of bounce. To combat this, you need some type of support system or bracket to keep the tray from bouncing while you type. Unfortunately, the QuickStand does not have this, so the thin phenolic has quite a bit more bounce than the majority of standing desk converters. I am speculating again here, but from the pictures, it looks like Humanscale made an effort to correct the keyboard bounce by having a thicker keyboard platform on the QuickStand Eco. I do not have the dimensions but this seems to be the case. I am curious to find out if there is a better support system to help further limit keyboard bounce.
Final Thoughts
With so many standing desk converters coming out recently, it is not very often that I am truly excited for one to be released. But, I can honestly say that I am really looking forward to getting my hands on the QuickStand Eco. The original QuickStand received a good overall score when I did my in-depth review on the product but it lost points in a few categories, which prevented it from getting a great score. Its long assembly time, lack of keyboard stability and small task space were factors that held back the QuickStand. These are all features that look to be improved on the QuickStand Eco and it comes in at a lower price point. I have high hopes for the QuickStand Eco and look forward to writing my in-depth review for you.
