The Haworth Fern Chair is said to be one of the best office chairs because of comfort and flexibility. I was certainly shocked when they came out with a gaming chair design. I knew I had to try it out to see if it lived up to the high standard of the Haworth office chair.

1. Haworth Fern Halo Gaming Chair
Without further ado, Haworth has released a new gaming chair Halo addition that features an all spartan green and sleek black color. It presents a small gold emblem on the back of the chair to give it some flair as well as a spartan patch.

To me, it’s not too gaudy and adds the perfect touch to make this chair unique. There are also the numbers 117 stitched in white on the headrest which if you are a diehard Halo fan then you know it stands for John 117 which is Master Chief’s Spartan tag.
2. Gaming Chair Basic Functions
Next, this design isn’t an over-the-top gamer chair compared to others. The basic functions are no different than the original Fern office chair. It’s actually going to be more limited because there are fewer options to configure your chair. The features include the seat height adjustment, seat depth adjustment, synchro tilt recline with 5 tilt positions and tension control.

One of the reasons I love the Fern chair in general is because of the large range of recline motion. You can lean back smoothly and get in a more comfortable position while sitting at your desk.

The 4-way adjustable arms are a great add-on and allow many opportunities for your arms to lay in different spots. The pads themselves are soft to the touch and can easily be leaned on without causing pain. This is especially significant for a gaming chair because the arms can accommodate all heights and gaming positions like using a PC or console players that use a desk.
3. Ultimate Headrest
Additionally, the Halo gaming chair comes with a headrest which can be attractive for some people, but personally I would rather go without. The original Haworth Fern also has a headrest and I am not a fan of that either. It’s not very comfortable and a little too hard. It doesn’t allow me to put my head in a good place and prevents me from stretching back freely. I wouldn’t mind if they gave the option to remove the headrest, but unfortunately it is how they are designed.

4. Lumbar Options for the Fern Halo
Furthermore, the chair does come with the option of getting the height adjustable lumbar system added or not. I think this system is just too aggressive, but for some people, it might be exactly what they need to get a great chair experience.

By not having the lumbar system, it allows me to sink into the backrest more and have that natural curve really mold to my body. The system itself is great, but a personal preference.
5. The Upholstery Between the Ferns
Between the two Ferns, I noticed the upholstery was different. The gaming design comes with a leather seat which gives it an extra bit of softness and support compared to the original. A drawback that I realized was that my legs started getting warm after sitting in the chair for about 3 hours. This won’t be the case for everyone, but it is something to consider.

Bottom Line
Overall, the Fern gaming chair is a great idea for those that want a high-end gaming chair without having to go with that typical racing style. If people are not interested in a gaming chair, then the original Fern option is always available for purchase.
