Selecting the perfect chair is a huge decision and it can impact your comfort and productivity. In this article, we will compare two chairs from the same parent company, Future Seating: the X-Chair X2, labeled as an ergonomic office chair, and the Mavix M9, designed specifically for gaming. While gaming upgrades are often seen as unnecessary, the Mavix M9 proves to be a superior choice in this case. Both chairs have similar builds and come at a similar price point of around $1000. However, I think the Mavix M9 is a better chair. Let’s dive into details about why the Mavix M9 outshines the X-Chair X2.

1. Build Quality and Price
From a build quality standpoint, the X-Chair X2 and the Mavix M9 are almost identical. They both fall into the upper end of the mid-market range. One notable difference is the price. When adding options like a wider seat and locking wheels to match the standard Mavix M9, the X-Chair X2 ends up costing $879, compared to the Mavix M9’s price of $849. This price difference is significant.

2. Comfort and Design
One of the main reasons why I think the Mavix M9 is better is because it’s simply more comfortable. While the arms of both chairs are the same, the seat and back of the Mavix M9 provide a much more relaxing experience. The X-Chair X2 features a mesh seat with a foam pad at the front making it firm and coarse. In contrast, the Mavix M9 has a padded leather design, which is much softer and lacks the hard edges found on the X-Chair X2. The backrest of the X-Chair X2 also has a plastic frame in the middle, which can be felt while sitting. The Mavix M9, on the other hand, offers a more comfortable backrest due to its padded leather material.

3. Recline and Adjustability
Next, the recline function is an area where the Mavix M9 excels. It features a standard synchro tilt recline with a smooth and easy-to-use mechanism. It offers multiple locking positions and tension control. What sets it apart is its range and independent back angle adjustment. The Mavix M9 has one of the deepest reclines available, allowing you to work fully upright or lay almost completely flat. The X-Chair X2 has a synchro tilt recline with locking positions and tension control, but its range is not as large. Additionally, the X-Chair X2 always has a forward tilt mode engaged unless you lock the chair. This can be quite annoying when sitting upright and the front edge rocks forward. This design flaw is a major drawback for me and a significant reason why the Mavix M9 is a better choice.

4. Headrest and Warranty
Furthermore, the headrest is another area where I prefer the Mavix M9 because it’s easier to adjust. The leather material is softer on the skin and doesn’t pull hair like the mesh material of the X-Chair X2. In terms of warranty, both chairs offer five years of coverage on moving components and upholstery. However, the Mavix M9 provides additional coverage of 12 years on non-moving metal parts while the X-Chair X2 provides 15 years on those same parts. The warranty of the X-Chair X2 does have some advantages, but it’s minimal.

5. Return Policy Deal Breaker
One potential deal breaker for both chairs is their return policy. Both the X-Chair X2 and the Mavix M9 have a costly return policy. You have 30 days to try the chair, but if you have assembled it, you need to pay a shipping fee of $49.99 to $69.99, depending on your location along with an additional $149.99 for a return kit fee. If you have never assembled the chair and have the original packaging, the fee is still $49.99 to $69.99. This return policy can be quite expensive, making it important to carefully consider your decision before purchasing either chair.

Bottom Line
Ultimately, the Mavix M9 gaming chair is the better option in my opinion. While both chairs are similar, the Mavix M9 offers a more comfortable seating experience. It has an impressive recline, headrest and adjustability range. With any chair, it’s important to do your research before making a large purchase.
