Trying to fully understand an office chair manufacturer’s warranty can be difficult, but trying to compare the warranties of several manufacturers is an arduous task. I have taken it upon myself to research the warranties of nearly 200 office furniture manufacturers so that I could get down to the nitty gritty and compile a list of my top 5 office chair warranties. The factors that were used to determine the best office chair warranties are: manufacturer reliability, warranty length & exclusions and the warranty process.

Best Office Chair Manufacturer Warranties
- Herman Miller Warranty
- Steelcase Warranty
- Humanscale Warranty
- Sitmatic Warranty
- Eurotech/Raynor Warranty
Manufacturer Reliability – The length of time a manufacturer has been in business, coupled with its reputation in the office furniture world, are huge factors when considering the best office chair warranties. A warranty is only as good as the company providing it. If the company providing your warranty isn’t strong enough to stay in business long enough to honor it, then the warranty is worthless. For this reason, I heavily discounted warranties from companies in business less than 10 years due to their lack of experience and track record servicing warranty related issues.
Warranty Length and Exclusions – The length of a warranty is pretty self-explanatory, but most warranties have several exclusions. Often times warranties that are labeled as “limited lifetime” have very few parts that are actually covered for the life of the chair. I chose the warranties with the longest times, paired with the largest scope of coverage. Note: All warranties will exclude normal wear and tear or damage. This may be caused by accident, neglect, product abuse, misuse and/or failure to follow instructions relating to the product’s installation or intended use.
Warranty Process – The process for filing a warranty claim can be just as important as the length of coverage. Some manufacturers will require the customer to pay for labor, return shipping and outbound shipping in order to repair the chair. Other manufacturers will send a representative to your location to handle any repairs, free of charge. I put a lot of value in companies that take care of service issues in the field. Companies that pay for the shipping and labor themselves and have the chair brought back to their own factory for repairs are also highly valued.
1. Herman Miller Warranty
Length and Exclusion:
Product | Warranty Length | Shift Usage | Weight Limit |
Seating | 12 Years | 24/7 | 300-350 lbs |
Components | 12 Years | 24/7 | 300-350 lbs |
Fabrics | 5-12 Years | 24/7 | 300-350 lbs |
Warranty process:
Who performs the repair? | Herman Miller |
Will the manufacturer send a technician to your location? | Yes |
Who covers shipping costs when repaired at factory? | Herman Miller |
Who covers labor costs? | Herman Miller |
Reason for selection
Herman Miller is a publicly traded company that has been in business since 1905. They are one of the largest and most well-known office chair manufacturers in the world. They are the manufacturer of the ever-popular Aeron mesh chair and have been the leader in the modern office furniture market for decades. Their warranty length is very strong and they do not have a limit on shift usage. Components are not excluded and Herman Miller is able to send out technicians to perform service work in the field whenever possible. One thing that sets Herman Miller apart is that they have a selection of fabrics that are warranted for 12 years, under 24/7 usage which is not something I found with any other manufacturer, except Steelcase.
2. Steelcase Warranty
Length and Exclusion:
Product | Warranty Length | Shift Usage | Weight Limit |
Seating | Lifetime | 24/7 | 300-400 lbs |
Components | 12 Years | 24/7 | 300-400 lbs |
Fabrics | 5-12 Years | 24/7 | 300-400 lbs |
Reason for selection
Steelcase is traded on the New York Stock Exchange with a yearly revenue of over $3 billion, making them the largest office furniture manufacturer in the world. Their warranty is very similar to Herman Miller’s. They offer around the clock usage with no exclusions on components . They also have an extensive selection of fabric options with the same 12-year warranty. I placed Steelcase lower than Herman Miller because Steelcase makes no mention of performing repairs in the field with their own technicians. It seems that all repairs are handled at their factory. One thing that I really like about the Steelcase warranty is their willingness to refund the customer, if it is determined that a repair, or replacement, is not commercially practical. This is something manufacturers almost always try to avoid.
3. Humanscale Warranty
Length and Exclusion:
Product | Warranty Length | Shift Usage | Weight Limit |
Seating | 15 Years | 24/7 | 300 lbs |
Components | 15 Years | 24/7 | 300 lbs |
Fabric, Cushions, Arm Pads | 5 Years | Single Shift | 300 lbs |
Warranty process:
Who performs the repair? | Humanscale |
Will the manufacturer send a technician to your location? | Yes |
Who covers shipping costs when repaired at factory? | Humanscale |
Who covers labor costs? | Humanscale |
Reason for selection
Humanscale has been in business since 1983 and are considered the global leader in ergonomic furniture so they are incredibly reliable and have a long track record of taking care of their customers. A 15-year warranty with a 24-hour rating puts them above almost every other manufacturer in that regard. They also do not exclude components that other manufacturers typically do, like: casters, cylinders and mechanisms. But, it is their service that secured them a spot on my list. They are one of a few manufacturers that I researched that had a team of technicians to make repairs in the field and offered zero cost labor and shipping if the chair needs to be shipped back to their factory for repairs. The one factor that placed them lower than Herman Miller and Steelcase is that Humanscale does not offer the same 15 years of coverage for 24/7 use on their foam, fabric or arm pads. See our Humanscale products.
4. Sitmatic Warranty
Length and Exclusion:
Product | Warranty Length | Shift Usage | Weight Limit |
Seating | Lifetime | 24/7 | No Limit |
Components & Fabrics | 10 Years | 24/7 | No Limit |
Warranty process:
Who performs the repair? | Sitmatic or customer |
Will the manufacturer send a technician to your location? | Yes, if within 50 miles of dealer |
Who covers shipping costs when repaired at factory? | Sitmatic |
Who covers labor costs? | Sitmatic |
Reason for selection
Sitmatic has been doing business since 1985. Sitmatic seems to be more confident in their chair quality and warranty than any other manufacturer I came across. They are so confident, in fact, that in an open letter to their customers, President Paul Makielski was quoted as saying, “We will match any of our competitor’s warranty.” There are a couple things that really make Sitmatic’s warranty stand out. The first is that the warranty follows the chair, not the original purchaser. The second is that the warranty has no limits with regard to the amount of time the chair is used, per day, or the weight of the individual using it. Sitmatic says that if you can fit in their chair, then they will provide a warranty for it.
5. Eurotech Seating Warranty
Length and Exclusion:
Product | Warranty Length | Shift Usage | Weight Limit |
Seating | Lifetime | Single Shift | 250-400 lbs |
Fabrics | 5 Years | Single Shift | 250-400 lbs |
Warranty process:
Who performs the repair? | Eurotech Seating or Customer |
Will the manufacturer send a technician to your location? | No |
Who covers shipping costs when repaired at factory? | Customer |
Who covers labor costs? | Eurotech Seating |
Reason for selection
I chose Eurotech Seating for our 5th spot because their warranty is a bit of a diamond in the rough. Eurotech Seating is a manufacturer that imports the majority of their products from China. They have been in business since 1979 and have been very successful. While their warranty may not have unlimited weight ratings, 24/7 usage, or on site repairs, they do offer a lifetime warranty on the entirety of the chair, except the fabric. This is unheard of with import chair manufacturers. Typically, chairs have a much simpler design than the manufacturers highlighted above, so it is very easy for a customer to perform the part replacement themselves. See our Eurotech Seating products.
Bottom Line
Strong companies that offer high quality seating solutions will have the most secure warranties. It is no surprise that the top 3 warranties on my list were from 3 of the biggest and most well-known chair manufacturers in the world. A long list of exclusions or limitations should be a red flag for you to do some more research on the product you are considering, or try finding a new product. I hope that this list gives you an idea of what the best office chair warranties have to offer and gives you an idea of what to look for when shopping for your new office chair.

You could also consider how these warranties are reflected globally, so that your international viewers can be informed about any regional differences.

I think you guys should definitely add a page for global warranties, since I think it’s important to mention that some of these companies like Steelcase don’t offer the same warranty outside of the US.
It would be really helpful for your viewers who aren’t from North America.

In the UK, it appears that Steelcase have shadily cut the warranty down from 12 years to only 5 years for certain parts of the chair.
On the Hunts Office UK website, whilst looking at the product page for the Steelcase Leap V2 and Gesture chairs, I noticed the following statement:
“12 Years (*5 years for surface materials, textiles)”
The asterisk was put next to the 12-year warranty claim in the top section of the page.
Sadly for someone looking for a new office chair, this leaves me with no option but to only consider Herman Miller chairs. As I don’t feel confident in spending over £1000 on a brand new chair that doesn’t even come with the warranty that it once had.
This issue is my main gripe with Haworth chairs, but it’s sad to see a brand like Steelcase begin to cut corners on their warranty.
