IKEA Idasen Price: Starting at $600.00 Buy on IKEA.com

If you’re looking for a nice standing desk that you can pick up somewhere locally, our number one recommendation would be the Ikea Idasen. This desk costs $449 if you purchase in store, but if you order online, you’ll be charged with a $199 shipping fee. This desk comes with a 10-year warranty which covers the entire frame, electronics, gears, motors, and structure itself. It also comes with a 365-day guarantee on the product, so you can return it if you don’t like it after a year.
While the Idasen features a 208 lb. lifting capacity, a drawback of this product is its varying depending upon the amount of weight that you put on the surface. We’ve found that after you add around 100 lbs. to the surface it begins to drop off significantly. With that being said, this may not be the best product if you need a desk that can lift a lot of weight.
Positively, this desk does include premium electronics, gears, and motors from one of the best manufacturers in the business for electric standing desks.
If you’re looking for something with great stability, this desk tested the highest for front to back stability. Even when fully extended, this desk was still excellent when looking at front to back stability itself.

Starting around $1,839, this desk comes with free shipping and free returns if it doesn’t fit your specific needs. It also includes a lifetime warranty on the complete frame, including the electronics, gears, motors, and structure, which is to be expected at this price point.
One of the reasons this desk was picked for best high-end is because it is using a different column structure with extruded aluminum columns that are made in Wisconsin. It starts at 23 inches and goes all the way up to 50 inches (not including the surface). The NewHeights XT was our number one pick for overall stability for two-leg standing desk frames and could have easily been picked for best desk for tall users. One thing to consider with this is that this desk may have some front to back issues when it reaches max height. If you’re looking for the most stable desk, you’ll probably want to look at the XT4 as an alternative, as it has almost no front to back stability issues. You can order this desk with or without the tradition cross support, which is very important for lateral stability.

A couple of questions.
Are these desks capable of working with electric controls to raise and lower the height?
With the stability issues, could a DIYer mount some sort of tracks on a wall behind the desktop and attach arms to the desk surface that would raise and lower in the wall track as the desk was raised and lowered. Might be some binding, so the DIYer would have to find that “sweet spot” for mounting the arms to the desk.
