If you’ve had a chance to read my IKEA Bekant review and Top 7 Problems post, you know that I am not a fan of the Bekant. With so many complaints found online and my own poor personal experience with the product, it’s hard for me to recommend it. Luckily, there are plenty of IKEA Bekant alternatives that exist, many of which are at or around the same price point. If you select a better-built standing desk, it becomes an investment that could last you well past the warranty period. Let’s take a closer look at the five best alternatives I have found and see if any might be a good fit for you.

5 Best IKEA Bekant Standing Desk Alternatives
- VertDesk v3 Standing Desk
- Uplift v2 Standing Desk
- Fully Jarvis Standing Desk
- Autonomous Standing Desk
- VertDesk Converter Standing Desk Converter
- Bottom Line
1. VertDesk v3
The first IKEA Bekant alternative is our very own VertDesk v3. The VertDesk couldn’t be more of opposite from the Bekant; with a cross support for added stability and premium electronics from LogicData. If stability is your main concern, you will not find a more solid standing desk under $700. Precision fit glides, assembly in the USA and cycle tested over 20,000 times; the VertDesk v3 is built to last for years to come. The VertDesk v3 comes with a higher weight capacity than the IKEA Bekant, at 275 lbs. It will have a shorter warranty of five years on electronics and ten years on the structure, including the desktop. The VertDesk v3 will also come with a shorter adjustment range, with 20” of travel from 27” up to 47.5” (with use of leveler glides).

2. Uplift Desk v2
Our second pick is also a well-known product, the Uplift v2 Desk by TheHumanSolution.com. We have tested this product extensively and it compares favorably to the IKEA Bekant. While it’s not as stable as the VertDesk v3; it is more stable than any of the other standing desks we have tested that do not include a traditional cross support. The Uplift Desk is manufactured by the well known Chinese brand, JieCang Linear Motion Technologies. With 26” of travel, the Uplift Desk will adjust from 25.25” up to 51.25” tall. It includes a higher weight capacity than the Bekant, with a standard lifting capacity of 355 lbs. It will come with a shorter warranty period; seven years on the electronics and structure, including the desktop.

3. Jarvis Desk by Fully
Know for being the Wirecutters reigning standing desk champ, the Jarvis Standing desk is our third pick. Less stable than our prior two picks, the Jarvis Desk still performs well when compared to the IKEA Bekant. Another product manufactured by JieCang Linear Motion Technologies, the Jarvis is currently being produced in China. With 26” of overall travel, the Jarvis Desk will adjust from 22.25” up to 48.75” (without top). It also includes a higher weight capacity than the IKEA Bekant, with a standard lifting capacity of 350 lbs. Similar to the Uplift Desk, it has a shorter warranty period; seven years on the electronics and structure.

4. Autonomous SmartDesk 2 Business Edition
My next pick is another well-known brand, the Autonomous SmartDesk 2 Business Edition. If you’re not familiar with the Autonomous brand, they initially launched in 2015 through Kickstarter and Indiegogo. The main reason for selecting the SmartDesk 2 was because of its low price point. While their desk frame is more stable the IKEA Bekant, it is significantly less stable than the VertDesk v3 and Uplift Desk. If your major concerns are stability and quality of electronics, I would not recommend this desk. However, it does include a five-year warranty on electronics, which is less than IKEA, but still positions itself well within the category. With over 26” of travel, the Autonomous desk will adjust from 24” up to 51” with use of the leveler glides. It has a weight capacity of 300 lbs and is the quickest of all the desks we’ve tested at 2.09” per second.

5. VertDesk Converter – $299
Our final pick is a bit of a wild card, the VertDesk Converter. It isn’t a full electric standing desk, but rather a cost effective way to convert your existing desk into a standing desk. With zero assembly required, you can simply pull the VertDesk Converter out of the box and set it on top of your desk. The VertDesk Converter uses gas cylinders to make quick adjustments from sitting to standing. As long as your current desk is stable, this will be a solid alternative to the IKEA Bekant. The VertDesk Converter is also our current pick for the most stable standing desk converter. With a standard weight capacity of 35 lbs, it can support up to two 24” monitors. With a warranty period of only two years, it will be quite a bit shorter than the IKEA Bekant. The VertDesk Converter has an adjustment range of 14” and moves from sitting to standing in seconds.

Bottom Line
Finding the best IKEA Bekant alternative will likely depend on your specific needs. If stability is one of your main concerns, the VertDesk v3 is a good option. With a traditional cross support and custom fit glide system, it is our most stable pick. If you prefer to go without cross support, you will sacrifice some stability with the Uplift Desk. While it is less stable than the VertDesk, it is still more stable than our other full standing desk picks. The Uplift Desk will also offer a similar height adjustment range at 26”. Those that are cost-conscious could find the Autonomous SmartDesk 2 as a good pick. While Autonomous is only a bit more stable than the Bekant, it’s price tag is it’s most attractive feature. All of the options that I’ve selected for you today are upgrades over the Bekant. Hopefully one will be a good fit for your specific needs.
