Today I will be taking an in depth look at the Rika office chair by Buzz Seating. This chair offers a wide range of ergonomic features and has one of the best warranties to back it up. The Rika is a great value, especially when compared to more expensive models such as the Ergohuman chair. I will be discussing why this chair can rival chairs, like the Ergohuman, which has been extremely popular for many years. Here is what I found in testing this chair.

Rika Chair Upholstery
The Rika chair is upholstered with a perforated fabric over a solid fabric underneath. All of the seams are clean and there are no loose threads. The mesh back is soft with a smooth finish, which is great as some mesh chairs have a rough mesh finish and can pull at clothing. The Rika chair can also be upholstered in an all mesh back and seat or a leather seat with mesh back.

Delivery and Assembly
This chair is shipped via FedEx Ground. It does need to be assembled, but it is fairly straight forward like most other office chairs. An allen wrench is included which will be used to tighten the 13 screws and bolts. Assembly will take approximately 10 minutes.
Rika Chair Warranty
The Rika chair comes with a limited lifetime warranty. All parts are covered for the life of the chair and the upholstery is covered for 5 years. This warranty is only valid for the original purchaser.
The very first time I sat in the Rika chair I could tell it was one of the more comfortable chairs I have sat in. The Rika chair, which is very similar to the Ergohuman chair, allows you to adjust everything to fit your specific body size. I was also impressed with the seat height range. The seat height (16”-21”) starts out quite a bit lower than similar chairs and will allow for a wider range of users.
The chair parts used are also very solid and can hold up to 300 lbs. In the past I have used office chairs that would make noises while being used. Some of those chairs squeak as I leaned back or the chrome base chattered when the wheels were rolling. I have also experienced noisy armrests that rattle with very little chair movement. After weeks of using this chair, it has not made a single sound.
What I like about this chair
The Rika chair comes with one of the best warranties on the market. The upholstery is covered for 5 years and the all of the chair parts are covered for the life of the chair. Chairs in the $400 range are not typically covered for that long because the parts used are not as durable. Offering a warranty like this proves that Buzz seating is confident in their products.
This chair is loaded with ergonomic features, which include the seat depth adjustment, adjustable arms with pivoting arm caps, and the contoured shape of lumbar on the back rest. All of these features work in unison to offer full ergonomic support. The only option this chair does not have is the height adjustable back, which isn’t a problem for most people. Finding a chair with this many quality ergonomic adjustments can be hard to find in this price range.
The Rika chair has a very thick seat cushion, which is measured at 4”. When I sat in the chair I did not feel any part of the seat frame or outer plastic seat pan like some other chairs that I have previously sat in. To compare the seat thickness I looked at Ergohuman’s leather seat and even the 4x4SL, which have a seat thickness less than 3”. Even though I have a height adjustable desk, I found myself sitting in this chair for a week straight without feeling any discomfort.
The best part about this chair is the choice of frame finishes. The chair can be made with a black frame and base, or an aluminum frame and base. It is well known from my previous chair reviews that I am not a fan of chrome or aluminum bases because they can become cloudy and scratch over time. The chair I have in the office has a black nylon base and a black painted frame. This gives the chair a more subtle look and does not clash like chrome finishes can.
The Rika chair is rated to hold up to 300 lbs., which is 50 lbs. more than the standard office chair. For example, the Rika chair offers all of the same ergonomic adjustments as the Ergohuman chair, but the Rika chair can hold 50 lbs more. Fifty pounds may not seem like a big difference, but this will give those people teetering around 250 lbs. another quality option at a great price.
The back angle on the Rika chair can be locked in the straight up and down position (There are four predetermined lock positions). This is very important for proper ergonomic posture. As discussed in previous articles, if the back cannot be locked at a 90 degree angle, the user can find themselves slowly sliding down the chair. The user may also have to use extra effort just to hold themselves up through the day which can be annoying and lead to bad posture.
This chair offers some of the best back support on the market. I can sit straight up and down in my chair and the back makes contact with my shoulders all the way down to my lower back. This is rare because some chair backs will only make contact with the lower back while leaving a gap toward the shoulders/upper back. On the other hand, some chairs will make contact with the upper back/shoulders but not make contact with the lower back. The Rika chair offers the best of both worlds with its backrest. It offers support from the lower back all of the way up to the shoulders.
The Rika chair comes standard with height adjustable arms and pivoting arm caps. Those arm caps help the user find the best ergonomic position for typing and mouse work. For instance, I angle my right arm cap straight so I can line up my hand with the mouse. The opposite arm cap is angled inward so I can keep my left hand on my keyboard ready to type.
What could be improved on this chair?
This chair does come with an adjustable lumbar support which can be slid up and down along the backrest. It does offer some support; however, I would like to see the support push more into the lower back, forcing the user to sit up straight. The lumbar pad butts all the way up to the mesh back, but does not extend past the mesh. Once again not a deal breaker, but this area could have been improved.
Although not completely necessary, this chair could use a height adjustable back. This would allow you to fine tune the chair to the your specific needs. Although the current backrest may fit the majority of users, there is always someone out there that may need the back height to be adjustable. For example, my shoulders blades make full contact with the back rest which is a must for ergonomic support. If you were a few inches taller than me, your shoulder blades may not make contact with the mesh part of the back. Without proper shoulder support the user can eventually develop pain in your shoulders or neck over time. If this chair had the height adjustable back, taller individuals over 6’ 2” would be able to use this chair more comfortably.
The Rikas comfort and adjustments are great and one of the best ergonomic chairs I have ever sat in. However, the look of the Rika chair is very plain and does not offer anything innovative in terms of aesthetics. It has a fabric seat with a mesh back and looks quite similar to many mesh chairs on the market.
The Rika chair offers some of the best ergonomic adjustments on the market, at a very competitive price. This chair has almost every adjustment from the seat depth to the arms, but it does lack the back height adjustment. Not only does this chair have all of those adjustments, it can hold 300 lbs. which is more than the very popular Ergohuman chair. This sturdy chair will last and it is shown by the limited lifetime warranty offered by Buzz seating. Hopefully this review will offer some insight into how great this chair is and should help those doing research make an informed decision on what chair works best for them.
